Training

Training

During the Little Athletics season, training takes place at Seaforth Oval, Wakehurst Parkway, Seaforth on Wednesday evenings from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

Training is not compulsory but if you are new to athletics it will help develop your technique for competition on a Saturday. Please ensure that you arrive on time so that all athletes can get the most value out of each session, and the coach doesn’t have to repeat instructions each time another athlete arrives late.

To assist the children in reaching their full potential, we will have qualified coaches to teach the children proper technique in a variety of disciplines.

Due to the large number of children that typically attend training sessions, parent assistance is always required.  It would be greatly appreciated if at least one parent helper accompanied each group.  They can assist the coach with most activities including much needed “Crowd Control”.  Parents do not need to have any special training to assist the coaches however if they do wish to gain the skills to be able to more actively participate at training then Seaforth Little Athletics will pay for their enrollment in the “Introduction to Coaching Course” conducted regularly by the Little Athletics Association.

We aim to provide the following:

U7 & U8 – Coaches teaching the basic Techniques required for Discus, Shot Put, Long Jump, and Track Events.  Fun Games to develop Strength, Stamina, Agility, and Speed.

U9 and Above  Coaches to develop athlete’s technique in each event with drills and exercises specific to each event.

Each Training session will be divided into 4 sessions so that coaching in as many disciplines for the following Saturday competition can be included.  No need to wear your uniform to training, just something comfortable – and runners only, no spikes.

Events covered are:

Discus, Shot Put, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Sprints, Hurdles, Middle Distance

Centre Training:

In addition to Wednesday night training at Seaforth, the Manly Warringah Little Athletics Centre runs training for age groups U9 and above on Monday evenings from 6pm to 7:30 pm during the season. This training is aimed at athletes who want to specialise in certain disciplines rather than receive general training.

After the announcement of athletes selected to represent Manly Centre at the Zone/Regional/State Championships, Monday night training is restricted to those athletes selected.
